Acne scars

Every boy and girl gets acne at some point of their teen or pre-teen years. Sometimes, when they try to squeeze it out or pop it up (unprofessionally and not applying proper hygiene) they may leave scars. Sometimes acne scars are not caused by the squeezers but by the nature of the acne. If untreated, acne scars could remain permanently on the face.

There are two major categories of acne scars: hypertrophic and atrophic. Hypertrophic acne scars generate new tissue but are less common than atrophic acne scars that result in tissue loss.

In addition to the two major categories there are several types of acne scars:

a. Macules – small blue or white spots on the skin. This acne scars are much less visible.

b. Depressed fibrotic scars – small skin lesions that are very similar to whitehead acne lesions.

c. Ice-pick scars – look like little craters. They are lighter version of depressed fibrotic acne scars.

d. Soft acne scars – small, usually circular or linear and they have gentle loping rolled edges.

There are several ways to prevent the formation of scars, and even once the scars have formed, there are ways of treating them. For more details about acne scar treatment, use these links:
